Men make up many of the key behind-the-scenes roles in the film industry, but for the 2018 Windsor International Film Festival, that’s not the case.
Peel back the curtain and you’ll find 11 people keeping the festival running on the technical side — and eight of them are women.
For the first time this year, WIFF is taking place across three locations: the Capitol Theatre, Chrysler Theatre and University of Windsor School of Creative Arts. In just a few days, the group needed to transform these venues into makeshift movie theatres.
Technical director Svjetlana Oppen said a lot of work is done behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly.
“Every single detail from loading the films, from setting up the projectors, doing the audio system,” said Oppen. “Everything you see in the auditorium has to be checked and tested and installed.”
