The Windsor International Film Festival is now No. 1.
Southwestern Ontario’s marquee cultural event is officially the largest of 166 festivals on the Toronto International Film Festival Circuit. That makes it Canada’s biggest volunteer-run film festival in terms of attendance.
Movie lovers bought nearly 30,000 tickets during WIFF’s seven-day run in 2018.
“Today is a victory for Windsor,” Vincent Georgie, WIFF’s executive director and chief programmer, said Friday. “TIFF has built 166 film festivals across this country, all volunteer-run. To know that Windsor’s is now the largest, we’re absolutely thrilled by this. We’re thrilled for our team of volunteers that put this on. We’re really proud of the work that everyone does. And we’re proud for the community, because it means great things are happening here in Windsor and there is great quality of life here in Windsor.”
