The Windsor International Film Festival (WIFF) is pleased to announce WIFF Under the Stars community screenings. Hosted at Civic Plaza at Windsor City Hall Square, WIFF will be screening a variety of films from June 9 to 11, 2023.
During the day, a variety of family programming will be presented including Encanto, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and Blueback. The programming also includes anniversary titles including How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days and The Sandlot, Hollywood blockbusters including Top Gun: Maverick and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and more.
WIFF is excited to also present a series of new Canadian films including July Talk: Love Lives Here, an entertaining documentary about a great Canadian band, Adult Adoption, a drama that was filmed in Kingsville, ON, Food for the Rest of Us, an engaging documentary tackling the subject of food security, and more.
In late 2022, WIFF was pleased to receive funding through the Government of Canada’s Healthy Communities Initiative and with support from the WindsorEssex Community Foundation.
“I am proud to be a champion of WIFF, and I am thrilled our federal government continues to support WIFF in creating opportunities that bring our community together,” says Irek Kusmierczyk, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion and Member of Parliament for Windsor—Tecumseh. “In enthusiastically supporting WIFF, we support a thriving arts and culture community that drives the vitality and economy of Windsor-Essex.”
“The Canada Healthy Communities Initiative supports projects that create healthy, vibrant and inclusive spaces,” says Lisa Kolody, Executive Director of the WindsorEssex Community Foundation. “We are proud to support projects like WIFF Under the Stars, that enable a feeling of belonging and of social cohesion in our community.”
“We can’t wait to be back downtown to share films with our audience, in a new and exciting location this summer. With our great selection of films, there is truly something for everyone to enjoy,” said Vincent Georgie, Executive Director and Chief Programmer for WIFF. “We are very grateful to CHCI, WECF and the Government of Canada for supporting this arts and culture event for the community.”
WIFF would also like to thank the City of Windsor for hosting WIFF Under the Stars on the lawn at City Hall. WIFF Under the Stars will be the first community event hosted in the outdoor space.
“The WIFF Under The Stars screenings are another fantastic opportunity for Windsor audiences to experience unforgettable films in a unique outdoor setting,” said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. “I’m pleased to see the City of Windsor partner with the Windsor International Film Festival again on this innovative program, and I’m looking forward to seeing audiences gather to watch films outside Windsor City Hall. The screenings will be part of a full weekend of community programming that includes the City’s 131st Birthday Celebration, the annual Mayor’s Walk along the waterfront, Meet-A-Machine at the WFCU Centre and so much more. On behalf of City Council, I offer sincere thanks for the Government of Canada’s ongoing investments into WIFF, and to Vincent Georgie and all the partners and supporters working to bring this event to downtown Windsor. WIFF is a significant cultural institution in Windsor, and it’s great to see this incredible outreach continue from them.”
