The Windsor International Film Festival (WIFF) is pleased to announce an upcoming screening of the new hit film Shortcomings on August 15, 2023, and an exclusive advance promotional screening of Golda on August 23, 2023, ahead of its wide release on August 25, 2023.

Shortcomings is the directorial debut for actor-comedian, Randall Park. The film stars Justin H Min (Beef), Sherry Cola (Joyride), Stephanie Hsu (Joyride, Everything Everywhere All At Once) and Ronnie Chieng (M3GAN, Crazy Rich Asians).

The film follows Ben, a struggling filmmaker who lives in Berkeley, California with his girlfriend, Miko, who works for a local Asian American film festival. When he’s not managing an arthouse movie theatre as his day job, Ben spends his time obsessing over unavailable blonde women, watching Criterion Collection DVDs and eating in diners with his best friend Alice, a queer grad student with a serial dating habit. When Miko moves to New York for an internship, Ben is left to his own devices, and begins to explore what he thinks he might want.

“WIFF audiences have shown us that they want access to more films throughout the year, and we are pleased to have partners like Mongrel who work with us to make that possible,” said Vincent Georgie, Executive Director and Chief Programmer for WIFF. “Park’s debut is loaded with a great cast, don’t miss it.”

Golda is a new historical drama that stars Academy Award winner Helen Mirren as Golda Meir, alongside Liev Schreiber (Spotlight) and Camille Cottin (Call My Agent).

The film is a riveting ticking-clock thriller that unfolds against the backdrop of the tense 19-day period of the Yom Kippur War in 1973. At the center of the story is Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir, who finds herself confronting the terrifying prospect of Israel’s utter annihilation. Throughout the crisis, she must deftly navigate overwhelming odds, a skeptical cabinet and a complex relationship with the formidable US Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger (played by Schreiber), all while the fate of millions of lives hangs in the balance. Golda’s unwavering leadership and profound compassion play a pivotal role in determining the destiny of her nation, leaving behind a legacy that remains controversial and reverberates throughout the world.

“We’re pleased to be partnering with Elevation Pictures again to bring you this exclusive advance screening of Golda,” said Vincent Georgie, Executive Director and Chief Programmer for WIFF. “Dame Helen Mirren on the big screen? We’ll see you there!”

These screenings are part of the WIFF Presents series, which is presented by the Downtown Windsor Business Association. WIFF is grateful to the DWBIA for their continued support in hosting events in the downtown core.

The screening of Shortcomings will be hosted at the Capitol Theatre on August 15 at 7 PM.

The screening of Golda will be hosted at the Capitol Theatre on August 23 at 7 PM.

Tickets are available online now at windsorfilmfestival.com, and will be available at the door 30 minutes before showtime.
