Volunteering at WIFF

WIFF will be looking for volunteers for the 2024 Windsor International Film Festival this spring. Volunteers will be selected based on availability, experience, and fit. Check back for the volunteer registration links, or sign up for our email list to stay in the loop!

Volunteers play an integral role at the event including welcoming patrons, checking tickets, providing information, box office sales, and more. Volunteers, please note:

  • All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.
  • All volunteers must fulfill, a minimum of 4 shifts (4-5 hours each) to be considered.
  • Attend a mandatory volunteer orientation/training.
  • Attend a mandatory volunteer ‘lock-down’ program training session.

Volunteer Roles

Greeter

Our greeters are the volunteers that patrons see first when approaching or entering a venue. This position requires enthusiastic, friendly, and outgoing individuals that can approach and interact with patrons. Although easy, this position is important to many. Greeters may also be required to assist patrons in the use of kiosks to purchase tickets, ensuring kiosks are stocked with paper, and always working properly.

USHER

Our ushers are critical for a smooth flow of patrons in and out of the theatres and require great communication, customer service, as well as assertive individuals who can handle large crowds. They will ensure that patrons are in the right line, and have their tickets ready, as well as review patrons’ tickets upon entering the theatre.

INFO BOOTH

This position is straightforward but very in-depth. Requires strong communication skills as well as a good understanding of the Festival logistics and programming. This position interacts with patrons who are looking for more information regarding films, ticket purchasing selection, the venues, as well as day-to-day programming.

TICKET SaLES

This position requires additional training on the ticketing software, as well as WIFFs cash handling procedures. Requires a basic understanding of computer usage as well as clear communication, customer service skills, as well as being friendly and enthusiastic. This position is a critical role for an effective and smooth flow of patrons entering and exiting the box office, as well as to ensure patrons can get to their venues on time for their films. This position can also include selling WIFF merchandise.

PROJECTIONIST

This role is vital for the proper execution of film projection and display. This role requires an individual that can work independently and has fantastic technological understanding, advanced computer skills, problem-solving skills and can work fast under pressure. This role is responsible for all display of visuals on the screen. This role requires thorough screening and an interview process to gauge competencies. Requires additional training. EVENTS ASSISTANT

This role is to aid the event coordinators in executing the many events that are held during the Festival. This role helps set up venues, turnover venues for new events, as well as the operation of the events. Having attention to detail and outgoing individuals are encouraged for this role. Requires heavy lifting and/or working outdoors at times; must be able to lift at least 40-50lbs. Availability during the week before Festival (venue setup) and the day after Festival (venue/festival tear down) is strongly preferred.
