WIFF’s exclusive Toronto party turned into a bigger celebration than expected Thursday night after the province announced it was giving the film festival $50,000.
“I’m thrilled, absolutely delighted that Lisa MacLeod, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, joined us here at our WIFF at TIFF party and made the incredible announcement that she’s committing $50,000 to the festival,” said Vincent Georgie, executive director of the Windsor International Film Festival.

MacLeod made the announcement Thursday night on the rooftop of the TIFF Bell Lightbox in downtown Toronto, where WIFF was hosting a private reception during the Toronto International Film Festival.
About 150 people attended the WIFF at TIFF party.
“We’re on the rooftop of the TIFF Bell Lightbox celebrating with so many supporters from Windsor, so many supporters from Toronto,” said Georgie. “We’ve got a filmmaker colleague that flew in from New York just to be here.”
George said the funding announcement speaks to what a big player WIFF, Canada’s No. 1 volunteer-run film festival, has become.
