The Windsor International Film Festival (WIFF) is pleased to announce Matt Gallagher’s PREY as the recipient of the 2019 LiUNA People’s Choice Award.
WIFF audiences were moved by this compelling documentary about the story of a sexual abuse survivor’s court battle with the Catholic Church.
Following both screenings of PREY, WIFF Executive Director and Chief Programmer, Vincent Georgie, was joined on stage by the director of the film Matt Gallagher, sexual abuse survivors, Rod MacLeod, and Patrick McMahon, and lawyer Rob Talach. The question and answer periods that followed, truly highlighted that the end of the film, is the beginning of the conversation.
“PREY is the epitome of the kind of film that WIFF audiences stand for: important, powerful, and local,” said Vincent Georgie. “Anyone that attended these screenings and, most importantly, their unforgettable post-film question periods clearly understand the quote ‘the end of the film is the beginning of the conversation.'”
PREY was among the 165 feature, documentary, and short film titles and 277 screenings at WIFF 2019. Total attendance at WIFF 2019 topped 40,000 tickets sold, an increase from last year’s festival.
A special mention must be made of the second and third place films – Ron Howard’s PAVAROTTI, and David Charles Rodrigues’ GAY CHORUS DEEP SOUTH.
