IF YOU WANT THRILLS & CHILLS

LEVITICUS

Vincent Georgie: Summer ’26 has seen the rise of high-quality and original new horror films like Obsession and Backrooms, among others. Allow me to ensure you don’t miss out on this very well-written, acted, and directed horror thriller from Australia. It deserves to join the ranks as a horror hit of the Summer.

Synopsis: Two teens try to escape from a violent entity that takes the form of the person they desire most.

IF YOU WANT A QUALITY DRAMA

THE YOUNG VICTORIA

Vincent Georgie: Emily Blunt has had two great hits this Summer with both The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Disclosure Day. Many of her fans have seen (or think they have seen) all of her films. Allow me to put this terrific period drama directed by Canada’s superstar director Denis Villeneuve on your radar. Oscar-winner for Best Costume Design.

Synopsis: As the only legitimate heir of England’s King William, teenage Victoria (Emily Blunt) gets caught up in the political machinations of her own family. Victoria’s mother (Miranda Richardson) wants her to sign a regency order, while her Belgian uncle schemes to arrange a marriage between the future monarch and Prince Albert (Rupert Friend), the man who will become the love of her life.

IF YOU WANT BIG LAUGHS

OUTRAGEOUS TERRACE

Vincent Georgie: Bette Midler in a lead role + Shelley Long in a lead role + ’80s ridiculousness = a very fun comedy.

Synopsis: Bombastic wannabe actress Sandy Borzinsky (Bette Midler) and persnickety Hollywood hopeful Lauren Ames (Shelley Long) land in the same popular acting class and immediately find they can’t stand one another. Worse still, the natural adversaries realize they share the same boyfriend, Michael Sanders (Peter Coyote), who then dies suddenly in an explosion. Believing he’s still alive, they set out to find him, only to discover they’re being chased by spies, and that Michael is not who they thought.

DOUBLE FEATURE

THE NEVER-DULL WILLEM DAFOE

Vincent Georgie: When you see Willem Dafoe’s slightly crazed, angular face show up on-screen, you know you are in for something unusual and memorable to happen. He’s a strong actor, as evidenced by these two films. This first film landed him an Oscar nomination for a truly transformative and difficult Gothic performance. The second film – working with a very committed Charlotte Gainsbourg as his co-star – is an unsettling, stark, and fiery conversation-starter. Enjoy (and be warned!).

SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE

F. W. Murnau (John Malkovich) is struggling to create his silent classic “Nosferatu” on location in Eastern Europe. The director is obsessed with making this the most authentic vampire movie ever. To that end, Murnau has employed a real vampire, Max Schreck (Willem Dafoe), explaining to the crew that he is the ultimate of that new breed, the “method actor” — trained by Stanislavsky himself. Schreck will appear only in character and only at night.

ANTICHRIST

While a married couple (Willem Dafoe, Charlotte Gainsbourg) is having sex, their infant son in a nearby room falls out a window to his death. She becomes distraught and is hospitalized, but her husband, who is a psychiatrist, attempts to treat her. Deciding that she needs to face her fears, he takes her to a cabin in the woods where she spent a previous summer with the boy. Once they are there, she becomes more unhinged and starts perpetrating sexual violence on her husband and herself.
