Vincent Georgie: What Ari Aster’s latest film doesn’t have in focus or concision, it more than makes up for in its interesting and skewering take on COVID-era fear/paranoia, political divisiveness, and faux activism. Utilizing Joaquin Phoenix to great heights (while wasting most of the rest of the cast), the film will be a stimulating and frustrating experience that will surely give you much to talk about after the lights come up.
Synopsis: During the COVID-19 pandemic, a standoff between a small-town sheriff and mayor sparks a powder keg as neighbour is pitted against neighbour in Eddington, New Mexico.
| Available on Apple TV and Amazon Prime. |
Vincent Georgie: The film’s heart is so large, and its story so achingly humane, that you can’t help but get swept up in this touching and life-affirming film. Unexpectedly, a major box office hit upon release in 2017.
Synopsis: Born with facial differences that, up until now, have prevented him from going to a mainstream school, Auggie Pullman becomes the most unlikely of heroes when he enters the local fifth grade. As his family, his new classmates, and the larger community all struggle to discover their compassion and acceptance, Auggie’s extraordinary journey will unite them and prove that you can’t blend in when you were born to stand out.
Available on Apple TV, Netflix, and Amazon Prime.
Vincent Georgie: Bloody, violent, and incredibly well-acted, this bruising British true crime story aces its assignment thanks to filmmaker Peter Medak and twin actors Martin & Gary Kemp. A tough watch that you can’t take your eyes off. You won’t forget this one.
Synopsis: Twins Ronnie (Gary Kemp) and Reggie Kray (Martin Kemp) are raised in East London, under the influence of their hateful but doting mother, Violet (Billie Whitelaw). As they grow up, Ronnie’s violent nature takes over, and Reggie follows his brother’s lead. The two become notorious crime lords who rule over the East End club scene. But at the height of their power, the brothers veer into different lives, giving the older crime bosses a chance to reclaim what the Kray twins took from them.
