IF YOU WANT A GREAT DATE MOVIE

LA LA LAND

Vincent Georgie: This film was a pop culture, box office and Oscar juggernaut upon its release. Coming off his breakout film Whiplash, filmmaker Damien Chazelle was a strong match with the never-more-appealing duo of Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. A film loaded with optimism, romance and great new music. Grab someone’s hand and put this one on. Now celebrating its 10th Anniversary.

Synopsis: Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) and Mia (Emma Stone) are drawn together by their common desire to do what they love. But as success mounts they are faced with decisions that begin to fray the fragile fabric of their love affair, and the dreams they worked so hard to maintain in each other threaten to rip them apart.

IF YOU WANT SOMETHING UPLIFTING

20 FEET FROM STARDOM

Vincent Georgie: One of the easiest recommendations I can possibly make, this is an entertaining, uplifting and inspiring film about dreams, talents and always pulling for the underdogs. Oscar-Winner as Best Documentary of 2013, this was a fave at WIFF that year.

Synopsis: Filmmaker Morgan Neville shines a long-overdue spotlight on the hit-making contributions of longtime backup singers like Darlene Love and Merry Clayton.

IF YOU A CHALLENGING DRAMA

BLUE HERON

Vincent Georgie: Canadian filmmaker Sophy Romvari turns her camera towards the ultra-personal, in this meaningful and impressive breakout film. Well worth exploring.

Synopsis: A family of six settles into their new home on Vancouver Island as internal dynamics get revealed through the eyes of the youngest child.

DOUBLE FEATURE

SEXY COMEDIES

Vincent Georgie: This Summer has seen two pretty impressive comedies that have all things sex & relationships on their minds. A significant box office and critical hit, the first film marks actress/filmmaker Olivia Wilde’s best work to date, while the second film was a minor hit this Summer despite a fun, and appealing cast. Enjoy a fun, saucy night with these two.

Joe and Angela’s marriage is on thin ice. When their upstairs neighbors visit for a dinner party, the night spirals into unexpected places. Have they reignited the spark or lit the match that burns it all down?
