iF you want a bromance

friendship

Vincent Georgie: Original, funny, and cringey, this film has been a quiet hit at the box office and is now available to be seen at home. Comedian Tim Robinson is quite a marvel here. Take this one for a spin.

Synopsis: Suburban dad Craig falls hard for his charismatic new neighbour, but his attempts to make an adult male friend soon threaten to ruin both of their lives.

Available on Apple TV, YouTube, and Amazon Prime.

if you want to be inspired

jeannette

Vincent Georgie: A hidden gem from WIFF 2023, this film offers an honest glimpse into human triumph after unimaginable tragedy.

Synopsis: Queer single mother and competitive bodybuilder Jeannette Feliciano navigates her trauma with determination and love after surviving a mass shooting.

Available on Apple TV and YouTube.

if you want fun & romance

strictly ballroom

Vincent Georgie: We had a lot of fun bringing this Australian ballroom romantic comedy to WIFF Under the Stars last month. It’s a high-energy, stylized, and rousing film. Directed by Baz Luhrmann, who went on to acclaim with Moulin Rouge! among others, but this is the film that put him on the map. It’s a shame that star Paul Mercurio did not have the career that this film clearly promised. Highly recommended.

Synopsis: A top ballroom dancer pairs with a plain, left-footed local girl when his maverick style earns him the disdain of his more conventionally-minded colleagues. Together, the team gives it their all and makes dreams of the National Championship title come true.

DOUBLE FEATURE

arnie, the king of summer blockbusters

Vincent Georgie: The name “Arnold Schwarzenegger” immediately conjures up memories of action, explosions, excitement, and, yes, the Summer Blockbuster. Here are two of his most exciting and enjoyable action extravaganzas.

true lies

Secretly a spy but thought by his family to be a dull salesman, Harry Tasker (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is tracking down nuclear missiles in the possession of Islamic jihadist Aziz (Art Malik). Harry’s mission is complicated when he realizes his neglected wife, Helen (Jamie Lee Curtis), is contemplating an affair with Simon (Bill Paxton), a used-car salesman who claims he’s a spy. When Aziz kidnaps Harry and Helen, the secret agent must save the world and patch up his marriage at the same time.

Available on Apple TV, Disney+, Crave, and Amazon Prime.

eraser

John “The Eraser” Kruger is the top gun in the US Marshall Witness Protection scheme; he erases their past and deals with their future. His latest assignment is whistle-blower Dr. Lee Cullen, who has evidence against a major arms corporation that’s selling weapons to terrorists with the collusion of rogue enemy agents within, but there is danger nearer home for Kruger, from within his own department.

Available on Apple TV, Netflix, YouTube, Crave, and Amazon Prime.
