iF you want something light

the lost king

Vincent Georgie: A favourite of many from WIFF 2022, this British literary fantasy benefits from both a light touch and a winning lead performance by the reliably terrific Sally Hawkins. Directed by the great Stephen Frears. A film to fall in love with.

Synopsis: Guided by instinct and spectral visions, an ambitious writer and amateur historian defies the academic establishment to unearth Richard III’s long-missing remains in a Leicester car park.

Available on Apple TV and Amazon Prime.

if you want something passionate

blue is the warmest colour

Vincent Georgie: Steven Spielberg lead the Cannes Jury in 2013, insisting that the Palme d’Or be awarded not only to this film but that the 2 actresses from the film were so exceptionally strong, that they had to be recognized with the Palme d’Or as well as no acting prizes could fully capture their contributions to the film. Well, that’s quite a mouthful, but let that sink in for a second. Passionate, erotic, volatile, raw, and deeply human, the film is quite the ride. Unclutch your pearls and give in to the power of this story.

Synopsis: A French teen (Adèle Exarchopoulos) forms a deep emotional and sexual connection with an older art student (Léa Seydoux) she met in a lesbian bar.

Available on Apple TV.

if you want some thrills

visions

Vincent Georgie: A hidden gem from WIFF 2024, filmmaker Yann Gozlan has cornered the market on entertaining, suspenseful, and appealing European thrillers. He made the very popular Black Box from WIFF 2022, and this is another ride of a film. Beautiful production values. p together.

Synopsis: Brilliant airline captain Estelle has a perfect life with her renowned doctor husband, Guillaume, but everything changes when Estelle starts an intense love affair with Ana.

Available on Apple TV and Amazon Prime.

DOUBLE FEATURE

tom cruise, the hero of summer

Vincent Georgie: Much credit needs to be given to actor turned stunt afficionado, the one and only Tom Cruise. As his latest (and final?!) installment in this series has set the world box office ablaze, let’s go back nearly 3 decades and remember the first two films in the series that set up the unexpectedly long-lasting franchise.

mission: Impossible

When U.S. government operative Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his mentor, Jim Phelps (Jon Voight), go on a covert assignment that takes a disastrous turn, Jim is killed, and Ethan becomes the prime murder suspect. Now a fugitive, Hunt recruits brilliant hacker Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames) and maverick pilot Franz Krieger (Jean Reno) to help him sneak into a heavily guarded CIA building to retrieve a confidential computer file that will prove his innocence.

Available on Apple TV, Disney+, and Amazon Prime.

mission: impossible 2

Tom Cruise returns to his role as Ethan Hunt in the second installment of Mission: Impossible. This time Ethan Hunt leads his IMF team on a mission to capture a deadly German virus before it is released by terrorists. His mission is made impossible due to the fact that he is not the only person after samples of the disease. He must also contest with a gang of international terrorists headed by a turned bad former IMF agent who has already managed to steal the cure.

Available on Apple TV, Disney+, and Amazon Prime.
