IF YOU LOVE TRUE CRIME

THE CRASH

Vincent Georgie: It’s not high cinema, but it’s most certainly an engaging and rather shocking unveiling of deceptive, egregious human behaviour. Highly watchable.

Synopsis: A teen slams her car into a building, killing her boyfriend and his friend. What seems like a tragic accident becomes a murder case in this documentary.

IF YOU WANT A WARM RALLYING CRY

PRIDE

Vincent Georgie: Entertaining, meaningful and appealing, this one is an easy recommendation. Great ensemble cast.

Synopsis: Realizing that they share common foes in Margaret Thatcher, the police and the conservative press, London-based gay and lesbian activists lend their support to striking miners in 1984 Wales.

IF YOU’VE EVER HAD A CRUSH

GET REAL

Vincent Georgie: Anyone that has ever had a star-crossed crush will appreciate this UK gay romance. The underdog lead performance of Ben Silverstone makes his character tender and worth rooting-for.

Synopsis: Steven (Ben Silverstone) spends his school days longing for all-star athlete John (Brad Gorton). But John has a gorgeous girlfriend, and Steven is still in the closet about being gay. The only one who knows the teenager’s secret is his friend Linda (Charlotte Brittain). After a curious run-in with John in a public restroom, Steven starts to wonder if the jock is straight after all. When they start a romance, it threatens to expose the truth about both of them.

DOUBLE FEATURE

EMILY BLUNT

Vincent Georgie: Spielberg’s current hit Disclosure Day is burning up the box office and earning strong reviews for star Emily Blunt’s outstanding performance. Let’s take a look at 2 of her terrific lead performances, elevating romantic dramas seemingly singlehandedly.

THE FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT

On their one-year anniversary, sous chef Tom Solomon (Jason Segel) plans to surprise his girlfriend, Violet Barnes (Emily Blunt), with an engagement ring. The lovers do end up engaged, but the fact that the proposal does not go exactly as planned proves to be a harbinger of things to come. Each time they try to set a date, various obstacles stand in their way. As more and more time passes, Tom and Violet begin to wonder if perhaps their marriage is not meant to be.

WILD MOUNTAIN THYME

Headstrong farmer Rosemary Muldoon has her heart set on winning her neighbor Anthony Reilly’s love. Stung by his father’s plans to sell the family farm to his American nephew, Anthony is jolted into pursuing his dreams.
