Vincent Georgie: A small sensation as soon as it started streaming, the film is an unexpectedly wonderful starring vehicle for Sally Field and she is appealingly paired with the fast-rising Lewis Pullman. Audiences have been falling in love with this film for a reason. Funny and touching.
Synopsis: Through unlikely bonds formed during night shifts at a local aquarium, Tova, an elderly widow, learns of a life-changing discovery that may bring her joy and wonder once again.
| Available on Netflix. |
Vincent Georgie: A world filled with drifters, sleazy criminals, and assorted transient shape-shifters, director John Dahl clearly established his reputation in the mid-90s as the voice of the seedy. The film stars Nicolas Cage and Dennis Hopper. Need I say more?
Synopsis: When unemployed ex-marine Michael Williams (Nicolas Cage) stumbles into a bar in Red Rock, Wyoming, the owner, Wayne (J.T. Walsh), mistakes him for a hired killer and offers him $10,000 to kill his wife, Suzanne (Lara Flynn Boyle). Michael plays along, taking half the money up front, then tells Suzanne what her husband is planning. She seduces Michael and proposes that he kill her husband instead. While he weighs his options, the real killer (Dennis Hopper) turns up looking for his money.
Vincent Georgie: Bogart and Hepburn in a film directed by Huston. It’s time you watch it again/for the first time. Marvelous film.
Synopsis: After religious spinster’s (Katharine Hepburn) missionary brother is killed in WWI Africa, dissolute steamer captain (Humphrey Bogart) offers her safe passage. She’s not satisfied so she persuades him to destroy a German gunboat. The two spend most of their time fighting with each other rather than the Germans. Time alone on the river leads to love.
Vincent Georgie: Who could have ever imagined this inventive, original, and very funny film would spawn 4 sequels and 3 spinoff films? The energy and talent of the voice-work (especially Eddie Murphy, Antonio Banderas, and Cameron Diaz, among others) really elevates the film. Re-discover the original and stick around for it’s wonderful sequel.
Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek whose precious solitude is suddenly shattered by an invasion of annoying fairy tale characters. They were all banished from their kingdom by the evil Lord Farquaad. Determined to save their home, not to mention his, Shrek cuts a deal with Farquaad and sets out to rescue Princess Fiona to be Farquaad’s bride. Rescuing the Princess may be small compared to her deep, dark secret.
Available on Apple TV, Netflix, Crave, YouTube, and Amazon Prime.
After returning from their honeymoon and showing home movies to their friends, Shrek and Fiona learn that her parents have heard that she has married her true love and wish to invite him to their kingdom, called Far Far Away. The catch is: Fiona’s parents are unaware of the curse that struck their daughter and have assumed she married Prince Charming, not a 700-pound ogre with horrible hygiene and a talking donkey pal.
Available on Apple TV, Netflix, Crave, Amazon Prime, and YouTube.
