Vincent Georgie: A favourite from WIFF 2025, this is a visceral and beautifully shot crime story anchored by a very strong Maika Monroe, well-supported by Oscar-Winner Troy Kotsur. Directed by Maxime Giroux.
Synopsis: Fresh out of prison, young Ava tries to reclaim her drug empire but gets framed for murder instead. Hunted by cops and a ruthless crime boss, she must face her estranged father as she battles betrayal amid all the bloodshed.
Vincent Georgie: Bawdy, trivial, memorable and entertaining, take this 80s pop culture classic for a spin.
Synopsis: Geeky college students Gilbert (Anthony Edwards) and Lewis (Robert Carradine) are evicted from their dormitory when the Alpha Betas — who recently burned down their own fraternity house by accident — confiscate the building. When the college forces the freshmen to live in the gym, Gilbert, Lewis and their fellow dorks relocate to a run-down house. When the Alpha Betas, led by jock Stan (Ted McGinley), repeatedly humiliate them, the nerds plot revenge.
Vincent Georgie: My brother-in-law (and WIFF passholder) has seen a lot of films at the Festival over the years, but “…the one where the frying pans are killing everybody…” has crossed into unforgettable territory it seems. From WIFF 2018, this was a jaw-dropper of a documentary about a small Virginia town’s water system and the unimaginable effects of Teflon.
Synopsis: Citizens in West Virginia take on a powerful corporation after they discover it has knowingly been dumping a toxic chemical — now found in the blood of 99.7 percent of Americans — into the local drinking water supply.
Available on Apple TV and YouTube.
Vincent Georgie: Turning 49 earlier this week, Chastain has amassed a widely-respected filmography in the brief 15 years that she has been in the industry. Here are two lesser-known but equally terrific works from the red-haired Oscar-winner.
Willing to bend the rules for her clients, Elizabeth Sloane (Jessica Chastain) remains one of the most sought-after lobbyists in Washington, D.C. When asked to help oppose a bill that imposes regulations on firearms, she instead joins a scrappy boutique firm that represents the backers of the law. Her defiant stance and determination to win now makes her the target of powerful new enemies who threaten her career and the people she cares about.
Available on Apple TV, Plex, YouTube, and Amazon Prime.
Nurse Amy Loughren is shocked when Charlie Cullen, one of her colleagues, is foound responsible for the murder of dozens of patients over a period of sixteen years, across two states and nine hospitals, without being charged.
Available on Netflix.
