Vincent Georgie: While Neil Diamond and his music are well-featured here, this film is the unknown and very touching true story of married tribute singers. Kate Hudson received a Best Actress Oscar nomination, and this performance reminds us not only of her mother Goldie Hawn, but of why we have always loved Kate in the first place. Hugh Jackman continues to be one of the most broadly talented actors we have. Strong recommendation. One of the sleeper faves of 2025.
Synopsis: Two down-on-their-luck performers form a Neil Diamond tribute band, proving it’s never too late to find love and follow your dreams.
| Available on Apple TV, Amazon Prime, and YouTube. |
Vincent Georgie: Winner of several Oscars, not to mention the Grammy for Best Film Soundtrack, rediscover the old school nostalgia and catchy musicality of this all-time classic. Iconic lead performances by Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke put instant-smiles on faces young and old.
Synopsis: When Jane (Karen Dotrice) and Michael (Matthew Garber), the children of the wealthy and uptight Banks family, are faced with the prospect of a new nanny, they are pleasantly surprised by the arrival of the magical Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews). Embarking on a series of fantastical adventures with Mary and her Cockney performer friend, Bert (Dick Van Dyke), the siblings try to pass on some of their nanny’s sunny attitude to their preoccupied parents (David Tomlinson, Glynis Johns).
Available on Apple TV, YouTube, Disney+, and Amazon Prime.
Vincent Georgie: Actress turned filmmaker Mariska Hargitay turns the camera onto her own private life, specifically focusing on her famous mother, Jayne Mansfield, and her short-lived life. The degree of access and nuanced storytelling here are both impressive and quite moving.
Synopsis: Mariska Hargitay’s journey to understand and embrace the public and private legacy of her mother, Hollywood icon Jayne Mansfield.
Available on Apple TV, YouTube, Crave, and Amazon Prime.
Vincent Georgie: I was recently chatting with a dear friend about her love of British royalty pieces like the first film. It was only an instant classic of a miniseries, but produced a terrific film as well. The second recommendation is a frequently funny spoof of all things that the first film represents. It doesn’t always work, but it does provide some solid laughs and smiles. Careful how you pronounce the title out loud.
In the summer of 1930, the Crawleys grapple with the threat of social disgrace when Mary finds herself at the centre of a public scandal and the family faces financial trouble.
Available on Apple TV, Netflix, and Amazon Prime.
Eric Noone begins a forbidden romance with Rose Davenport, the lady of the house at a posh English manor. When an unexpected murder occurs, Eric gets framed, leaving Rose and her family’s future uncertain.
Available on Apple TV and Amazon Prime.
