Vincent Georgie: Very much of its time, this 1970s set satire features an appealing cast lead by Warren Beatty, Julie Christy, and Goldie Hawn. The film has lots on its amused mind, including sexual politics, pop culture, and suburban USA.
Synopsis: Against the backdrop of Nixon’s election to office, Beverly Hills hairdresser and notorious rake George Roundy runs into trouble when his lascivious habits begin to clash with his more responsible business ambitions. Things get even more complex when Roundy asks his wealthy mistress, Felicia Karpf, for a business loan, unaware that his best friend and ex-girlfriend, Jackie, is sleeping with Karpf’s husband, Lester.
Available on Apple TV, YouTube, Crave, and Amazon Prime.
Vincent Georgie: Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan cornered the market in appealing, smart, and enjoyable romantic comedies in the 90s. Cuddle up with the one you love/want to love/secretly love and enjoy. While both films are showing signs of aging (the technology!), they remain charmingly effective.
After the death of his wife, Sam Baldwin (Tom Hanks) moves to Seattle with his son, Jonah (Ross Malinger). When Jonah calls in to a talk-radio program to find a new wife for his father, Sam grudgingly gets on the line to discuss his feelings. Annie Reed (Meg Ryan), a reporter in Baltimore, hears Sam speak and falls for him, even though she is engaged. Unsure where it will lead, she writes Sam a letter asking him to meet her at the Empire State Building on Valentine’s Day.

Struggling boutique bookseller Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) hates Joe Fox (Tom Hanks), the owner of a corporate Foxbooks chain store that just moved in across the street. When they meet online, however, they begin an intense and anonymous Internet romance, oblivious of each other’s true identity. He must now struggle to reconcile his real-life dislike for her with the cyber love he’s come to feel.
