Vincent Georgie: While not as acidic as The War of the Roses, this remake benefits from strong chemistry between Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch and a lighter visual palette to counterbalance all the bad behaviour. The supporting cast is fun, namely Kate McKinnon. Stir up some Negronis and enjoy the film.
Synopsis: Life seems easy for picture-perfect couple Theo and Ivy: successful careers, a loving marriage, great kids. However, a tinderbox of fierce competition and hidden resentments soon emerge when Theo’s career nosedives and Ivy’s own ambitions take off.
| Available on Apple TV and Amazon Prime. |
Vincent Georgie: Filmmaker Benny Safdie delivers his first film without his brother/collaborator Josh, and cements his status as a major talent. He inspires a rather tremendous lead performance from The Rock, who deserves much credit for his sincere, transformative performance. A more nuanced film than one would expect.
Synopsis: The true story of mixed martial arts and UFC fighter Mark Kerr, whose obsession with greatness made him a legend — and nearly cost him everything.
Available on Apple TV, Amazon Prime, and YouTube.
Vincent Georgie: At this year’s Festival, Jodie Foster wowed our audience with her lead role in A Private Life. Take a look at this sophisticated thriller that saw Foster collaborate with master technician David Fincher. Terrific thriller.
Synopsis: Trapped in their New York brownstone’s panic room, a hidden chamber built as a sanctuary in the event of break-ins, newly divorced Meg Altman (Jodie Foster) and her young daughter Sarah (Kristen Stewart) play a deadly game of cat-and-mouse with three intruders – Burnham (Forest Whitaker), Raoul (Dwight Yoakam) and Junior (Jared Leto) – during a brutal home invasion. But the room itself is the focal point because what the intruders really want is inside it.
Available on Apple TV, YouTube, and Amazon Prime.
Vincent Georgie: Both Official Selections from WIFF 2019 and 2025, respectively, these Canadian comedic hits delivered big laughs and genuine entertainment. Effective silliness at its best.
Simon Aubert runs his entire life on lies. An executive at an aviation company, he lies about everything. Simon’s self-serving lies are so abundant that the universe (governed by a handful of Buddhist monks, it seems) decides to right a wrong by teaching him a lesson and making all of the lies reality on the eve of his company’s crucial meeting with a Russian businessman that Simon absolutely needs to impress in order to prevent the closure of the small-town plant where his twin brother Phil works.
Available on Apple TV, CBC Gem, and Amazon Prime.
Driven by the idea of making the people around her happy, Virginie lies constantly. As her partner Phil fears, her many lies become reality and shape multiverses that completely disrupt their lives and those around them. Having lied her entire life about her true nature, will Virginie be able to find her way back to the truth?
Available on YouTube, and Amazon Prime.
