Vincent Georgie: This weekend will see the new release Nightbitch, starring a risk-taking Amy Adams. Let me remind everyone of the film that made us all first fall in love with Adams. Her uncanny ability for innocence and joy that are never cloying or saccharine is unbelievable. Adams’ beautiful voice and commitment to the story are truly enchanting.
In the fairy-tale land of Andalasia, pretty young Giselle frolics with her woodland pals. She falls in love with the handsome Prince Edward, but when Giselle arrives at the castle to marry Prince Charming, his evil stepmother sends the princess-to-be to a place where there are `no happy ever afters’: New York City. Cynical divorce lawyer Robert comes to her rescue, but can Giselle find her way back to her true love?
Available on Apple TV, Amazon Prime and Disney+. |
Vincent Georgie: A good choice for the whole family, check out Ben Stiller in this effective new Christmas tale. The Opening Night film of TIFF 2024, the MVPs of this film are the Janson Brothers. Their real-life familial bonds are a major chemistry asset to making this film work.
Synopsis: A strait-laced man finds his life suddenly upended when he becomes the caregiver for his rambunctious, orphaned nephews.
Available on Disney+.
Vincent Georgie: Canada’s Atom Egoyan brings us a complicated story of memory and vengeance, an odyssey driven by Christopher Plummer in a terrific lead performance. Look for Dean Norris (TV’s “Breaking Bad”) in a key supporting role.
Synopsis: With help from a fellow Holocaust survivor (Martin Landau), a widower (Christopher Plummer) who struggles with memory loss embarks on a cross-country odyssey to find the former Nazi responsible for the deaths of their family members.
Available on Apple TV, Amazon Prime and Netflix.
Vincent Georgie: Our audience shed many tears this week as they caught Pugh’s latest film We Live In Time opposite the excellent Andrew Garfield, at WIFF Presents. Let’s take a look at two more outstanding performances by Pugh.

Forced to spend her days in endless tedium, when her husband is called away to one of his collieries she begins a passionate and fiery relationship with a young groom from the estate, beginning a conflict with her stern and unforgiving family that will end in tragedy.
Available on Apple TV and Amazon Prime.
In the years after the Civil War, Jo March lives in New York and makes her living as a writer, while her sister Amy studies painting in Paris.
