Vincent Georgie: One of the most popular films at WIFF 2025, the great, slow-burn chemistry between Josh O’Connor and Paul Mescal is memorable. A beautifully shot, rich-looking film with great musical elements and narration to boot. A cousin-of-a-film to Brokeback Mountain.
Synopsis: In 1917, two young music students attending the Boston Conservatory bond over their mutual love of folk music. They reconnect a few years later, embarking on a song collecting trip in the backwaters of Maine.
| Available on MUBI, Apple TV, and Amazon Prime. |
Vincent Georgie: Edward Berger’s follow-up to his Oscar-Winner Conclave is a polarizing film. Come for Colin Farrell’s go-for-broke lead performance, stay for the incredibly cinematic camerawork, striking visuals and overall visual sense of sexy chaos.
Synopsis: When his past and his debts start to catch up with him, a high-stakes gambler laying low in Macau encounters a kindred spirit who might just hold the key to his salvation.
Available on Netflix.
Vincent Georgie: One of the strongest dramas you will find this year. Georgian filmmaker Dea Kulumbegashvili has cemented her status as a tough, effective storyteller.
Synopsis: OB-GYN Nina faces investigation after a newborn’s death. Despite scrutiny and risks, she continues her medical work, providing care others avoid.
Available on MUBI, Apple TV, and Amazon Prime.
Vincent Georgie: Erivo is the star of last weekend’s box office smash, Wicked: For Good. While I don’t think she’s all that great in the film, it’s because I know how outstanding she can usually be. Take a look at two of her very best film performances. Action-packed in the first, and absolutely stealth in the second.
A police shootout leaves four thieves dead during an explosive armed robbery attempt in Chicago. Their widows — Veronica, Linda, Alice and Belle — have nothing in common except a debt left behind by their spouses’ criminal activities. Hoping to forge a future on their own terms, Veronica joins forces with the other three women to pull off a heist that her husband was planning.
Available on Apple TV and Amazon Prime.
From her escape from slavery through the dangerous missions she led to liberate hundreds of slaves through the Underground Railroad, the story of heroic abolitionist Harriet Tubman is told.
Available on Apple TV, Netflix, YouTube, and Amazon Prime.
