iF you WANT SOMETHING STIMULATING

COVER-UP

Vincent Georgie: Filmmaker Laura Poitras has never shied away from subject matters both dense and dangerous to interrogate. Her latest film is no exception.

Synopsis: Seymour Hersh has been at the front lines of political journalism in the United States. Hersh’s breakthrough reportage has brought to the public’s attention many of the most damning constitutional wrongdoings and cover-ups.

Available on Netflix.

if you WANT SOMETHING SAUCY

TWINLESS

Vincent Georgie: Funny, original, and definitely daring, this film made quite a splash at Sundance last year. Definitely worth discovering. Don’t read any online spoilers.

Synopsis: Two men who lost their respective twin brothers develop a growing friendship after meeting in a support group. However, both harbour long-hidden secrets that threaten to tear them apart.

Available on Apple TV, YouTube, and Amazon Prime.

if you want SOMETHING MEMORABLE

MEMENTO

Vincent Georgie: Christopher Nolan is responsible for some of the biggest films of all time, like the ingenious Inception, the accoladed Oppenheimer and the upcoming The Odyssey. Let’s go back to the film that made everyone sit up, and take notice. The twisty, novel and highly engaging mystery Memento. Guy Pearce and Carrie-Anne Moss are both well-cast, in a terrificaly seedy LA backdrop.

Synopsis: Leonard (Guy Pearce) is tracking down the man who raped and murdered his wife. The difficulty, however, of locating his wife’s killer is compounded by the fact that he suffers from a rare, untreatable form of memory loss. Although he can recall details of life before his accident, Leonard cannot remember what happened fifteen minutes ago, where he’s going, or why.

Available on Amazon Prime.

DOUBLE FEATURE

THE SAFDIES

Vincent Georgie: As Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme continues its incredible commercial and critical success, take a look at earlier works with his brother Benny that signalled the angsty, singular vision to come. Noting frequent collaborators Ronald Bronstein and Mary Bronstein (who made the also popular If I Had Legs I’d Kick You), these are the early films that put the Safdies on the industry’s radar.

DADDY LONGLEGS

An irresponsible divorced man spends two weeks with his young sons (Ronald Bronstein, Sage Ranaldo).

GOOD TIME

A botched robbery puts Nick in custody, forcing Connie into a relentless night of deception, chaos and survival as he fights to outwit the authorities and criminals alike.

Available on Apple TV, Netflix, and Amazon Prime.
