Don’t miss out on fan-favourite programming with Midnight Madness!

WIFF 2024 Midnight Madness programming includes a 35th-anniversary screening of Michael Keaton’s Batman, a 40th-anniversary screening of the horror classic A Nightmare on Elm Street, a 15th-anniversary screening of The Twilight Saga: New Moon and the spoon-filled yearly screening of Tommy Wisseau’s masterpiece The Room.

DEaD LOVER

A lonely Gravedigger who stinks of corpses finally meets her dream man, but their whirlwind affair is cut short when he tragically drowns at sea. Grief-stricken, she goes to morbid lengths to resurrect him through madcap scientific experiments, resulting in grave consequences and unlikely love.

Dead Lover is a hilarious, delirious, beautiful, horny, and wholly original Frankensteinian tale about the limits one Gravedigger will go to hold onto love. It is the sophomore feature from Grace Glowicki, who directed and stars as the love-obsessed, shovel-wielding Gravedigger turned mad scientist. Ben Petrie, Leah Doz and Lowen Morrow comprise the colourful cast of supporting characters, each playing multiple roles in the style of great romps such as Monty Python and Dr. Strangelove.

vampire zombies…from space!

1947, in the small town of Marlow, young Mary witnessed her mother’s gruesome death, where the infamous Dracula emerged from the shadows to claim her life. Now, ten years later, the trauma of that night still haunts her, especially as strange occurrences begin to plague her town. When her sister and father mysteriously vanish, Mary knows something sinister is at play.

Determined to uncover the truth, Mary starts digging into the events surrounding her sister and father’s disappearances. At the same time, hard-nosed police Chief Clarke and a new transfer, Detective Wallace, eager to prove himself, begin piecing together clues linked to the recent strange occurrences. The deeper they delve, the more they realize that something far worse than they imagined is unfolding in Marlow.

Terror grips the town as a full-blown zombie outbreak erupts, leaving chaos in its wake. The military is swiftly deployed, led by the over-the-top Colonel Talbit, who declares a state of emergency. Amidst the panic, Mary finds an unlikely ally in Wayne, a chain-smoking greaser with a heart of gold and a knack for trouble. As they investigate further, they uncover Dracula’s true plan: to build an unstoppable army of vampire zombies, using the unsuspecting townspeople of Marlow as his soldiers. His goal is to unleash this nightmarish force upon the world, plunging it into eternal darkness under his rule.

Mary, Wayne, Chief Clarke, and Wallace must band together to stop Dracula before his army grows too powerful to contain. Their mission is clear: stop Dracula and his undead legion before they overrun Marlow…and possibly the world.

the room

The bona fide classic of midnight madness is back at WIFF!

When Greg Sestero, an aspiring film actor, meets the weird and mysterious Tommy Wiseau in an acting class, they form a unique friendship and travel to Hollywood to make their dreams come true.

The film centers on Johnny (Wiseau), a man who has it all: great friends, a good job and a gorgeous fiancee named Lisa (Juliette Danielle). But Lisa’s innocent act masks the fact that she’s looking to bring Johnny down, and her manipulations are tearing Johnny apart. As Lisa informs her cancer-ridden mother, Claudette, that Johnny hit her (which he certainly did not), Jonny’s best friend Mark (Sestero) finds his resistance to Lisa’s seductive charms weakening. Meanwhile, local orphan Denny loops up to Johnny and needs the older man’s help after the teen rips off a drug dealer. What kind of drugs? It doesn’t matter. Then guys play football in tuxedos, because you can play football anywhere.
