Vincent Georgie named Knight of the Order of the Pléiade

The Order of the Pléiade recognizes the merits of individuals who have contributed to the flourishing of the French language in Ontario.

Yesterday, it was announced the rank of Knight is being bestowed upon Vincent Georgie, Executive Director & Chief Programmer of WIFF, in the prestigious Order of the Pléiade. This honour comes from the Province of Ontario, in recognition of Vincent’s fearless commitment to the promotion of Francophone films and culture at WIFF, to the benefit of all of Ontario.

The Order of the Pléiade is awarded around the world to leaders and personalities for their achievements in the name of francophonie, culture, cooperation and solidarity.

The recipients are chosen by a multi-party committee of parliamentarians, recognising exceptional contributions to Ontario’s Francophonie. Vincent will be installed by Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, Edith Dumont, at Queen’s Park on May 28th.

“It’s enormously encouraging, and quite moving actually, to be honoured in this way. My leadership of WIFF, and its successes, is a reflection of our outstanding team. We are all united as francophones, francophiles and allies. I am deeply indebted to the Province of Ontario, and most especially our tireless community supporter MPP Andrew Dowie for the nomination.” – said Georgie.

Under Vincent’s leadership, WIFF has become a dominant force on the French cinema scene, with WIFF screening the largest amount of Francophone feature films in all of North America.

Developing long-term partnerships with major Francophone cultural institutions, broadcasters, distributors, community and educational institutions, WIFF has been unwavering in its commitments.

WIFF 2026 takes place Oct 29^th to Nov 8th.
