Last night was the biggest night in Hollywood—the Oscars! Hosted by Conan O’Brien, the night was full of exciting wins, iconic performances, heartfelt moments, and inspiring speeches.
One of the biggest winners of the night was Anora, a WIFF 2024 Official Selection and winner of the LiUNA People’s Choice Award. The film was awarded 5 Oscars—Best Picture, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Director, Best Film Editing, and Best Original Screenplay. Sean Baker is the first person to win 4 Oscars for the same film.
Other notable wins for WIFF 2024 Official Selections include The Substance for Best Makeup & Hairstyling, Flow for Best Animated Feature, and Conclave for Best Adapted Screenplay. We are proud to have shown Conclave as the Closing Night Film in 2024 to a sold out crowd.
Films featured during our WIFF Presents series also performed well last night. Brazil is taking home their first Oscar for I’m Still Here, which won the Best International Feature Film award. Last month, WIFF screened all 3 slates of the Oscar Nominated Shorts. The winners in each category were In the Shadow of the Cypress (Animation), The Only Girl in the Orchestra (Documentary), and I’m Not A Robot (Live Action).
