Windsor, Friday, March 29, 2013 – Please join the Windsor International Film Festival on Thursday, April 4th for the WIFF double feature of Sally Potter’s Ginger and Rosa, starring Christina Hendricks, Elle Fanning, and Alice Englert, and Jeff Orlowski’s Chasing Ice, an award-winning documentary and WIFF favourite.
Ginger and Rosa, Capitol Theatre, 6 pm
Director Sally Potter, United Kingdom/Denmark, 2012
London 1962. Two teenage girls are inseparable. They play truant together, discuss religion, politics and hairstyles, and dream of lives bigger than their mothers’ frustrated domesticity. But, as the Cold War meets the sexual revolution, and the threat of nuclear holocaust escalates, the lifelong friendship of the two girls is shattered—by the clash of desire and the determination to survive. Ginger and Rosa marks Sally Potter’s return “to the era during which her politics and aesthetics took shape” and “when change seemed just around the corner.”
Chasing Ice, Capitol Theatre, 8.15 pm
Director Jeff Orlowski, USA, 2012
Orlowski’s acclaimed documentary was a huge hit at WIFF 2012, and tells the story of one man’s mission to change the tide of history by gathering undeniable evidence of climate change. In the spring of 2005, acclaimed National Geographic photographer James Balog was dispatched to the Arctic on a tricky assignment. With stunning cinematography and access to never before seen areas of the Arctic, Chasing Ice documents Balog’s incredible journey to provide incontrovertible proof—at great risk to his own health—that our planet is in crisis and what we do to it matters.
Tickets are $6 for students and $12 for adults and are available online at www.windsorfilmfestival.com or on the evening of the screening at the Capitol box office.
