PLAY IT LOUD! HOW TORONTO GOT SOUL
Play it Loud! Reveals Toronto’s vibrant Jamaican music scene from the 1960s to the ‘90s through the life and music of the legendary Jay Douglas. In 1963, 17-year-old Douglas joined his mother in Canada and was quickly swept up into a thriving, underground Black music scene as the lead singer of show-stopping band ‘The Cougars’. Douglas enjoyed a storied music career as a headliner playing gigs across Canada from small town bars to the most prestigious nightclubs. He drifted into obscurity playing weddings and cruise ships until his long lost records were discovered and re-released, returning him to the spotlight.
