WIFF Local Shorts #3

WIFF is committed to promoting and fostering local films and filmmakers and welcomes local short and feature film submissions for programming consideration to the festival. This year’s films were selected by judges on the basis of quality and originality, and on their ability to contribute significantly to the overall success of WIFF 2022.


Cat's Got Your Tongue directed by Elizabeth Whitmere (7 mins)
On her way to buy a car, a Deaf woman encounters a series of obstacles that are the result of other peoples’ biases rather than her Deafness, but she overcomes them with a little help from her secret superpower.

Room 15 directed by Ryan Wilson (15 mins)
A surreal montage of reality and the unknown. One man's journey to find if the decisions of the past are irrevocable or if they can they be changed.

The Backhand directed by Ken Amlin (8 mins)
When two mobsters kidnap the wrong guy they argue over the meaning of a forehand slap versus a backhand.

Letters from Home directed by Lana Oppen (20 mins)
When painful memories of the Bosnian War resurface through uncovered family letters, a filmmaker retraces her emotional journey as a refugee to Canada while reconciling a shattered past.
