We ask that you pre-register by emailing

We encourage all team members to come to the 48-hour kickoff, but at least one representative, that of the “producer”, must be present. The producer must be present to sign in any team.
A team representative must be at the kickoff with completed forms, starting at 6:00pm.

Entry fee is $20 and registration will end at 7:00pm when the 48-hour countdown begins. All registration fees are final. Bring your 'terms & agreements' paperwork, signed off by the producer, to hand in before you compete. This paperwork is part of the registration process together with your $20 entry fee if it has not been paid in advance.
You’ll receive your 48Hr-FlickFest 2012 instructions (including prop and line of dialogue) by 7:00 pm on Friday, October 19th, 2011 and begin the challenge.
You’ll then have the next 48 hours to complete your film.

All of the 48 Hour Flick Fest entries will be screened in a random order. An awards ceremony will take place afterwards for individual prizes. Teams will be provided with five (5) complimentary admission tickets to the screening).
Rules
- Completed shorts MUST be placed in an envelope. Your envelope must be labeled clearly with your TEAM NAME & TITLE.
- SLATE/INTRO CREDITS
The film must have 5 seconds of black followed by 10 second introduction credit reading: Team Name, Title, Genre, Prop & Line of Dialogue. No color bar.
- FINISHED FORMAT
**Finished shorts must be submitted as follows:
A self-contained, full HD or DV resolution QuickTime file (.mov), with no proprietary codecs (please TEST before you submit).
*** Please do not submit your film as a Standard DVD***
- During the official competition period, all creativity will take place, including but not limited to: Writing the script, Rehearsing, Costume/Set Design, Shooting, Editing, Graphics & Visual Effects, Sound Design & Music. Nailing your genre is essential.
- The only work to begin prior to the official competition period is:
Organizing Crew, Organizing Cast, Securing Equipment, Scouting/securing Locations.
- RUNNING TIME
The length of your short, including introduction and closing credits, can be anywhere between 2 - 5 minutes. Total combined credits can be no longer than 30 seconds. Do not feel like you need to use the full time allotted. Shorter can often work out better!
- All cast & crew must be volunteers.
- DROP OFF OF COMPLETED SHORT.

- LATE FILM ENTRIES.
Films received on Sunday after 7pm will be screened but are not eligible for any juried awards. To get your ineligible film screened you MUST hand something in by Sunday, October 21st, 7 pm. Late entries will still be eligible for an audience award. Anything arriving after 10pm will be disqualified.
- ABSOLUTELY NO ADVANCE SCREENINGS OR CHEATING.
Any team found to have cheated in some way, will be disqualified from any award and the screening. There is no exception to advance screenings of your film. Your short must only be premiered at the 48 Hour Flick Fest screening. This means NO cast and crew screening either. Please just tuck it away and save it for the event. Team leaders will be made responsible. It is way more fun this way if your film is a premier and the event is sold out. We promise.
- Any type of video or film camera may be used. There is no limit to the number of cameras that can be used.

- Can I hand in my short after the deadline?
Yes you can – however it WILL NOT be eligible for any juried awards only the audience award at the screening.
LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ONLY ACCEPTED UNTIL 8PM on October 21st and will be screened with everyone else at the festival - subject to space availability.
- When do we find out if we've successfully entered?
Assume you are all good to go once you have filled out the registration form and made a payment.
- What is the Entry Fee and what is it used for?
The entry fee is $20. This is to cover our basic costs of the event and also provides the prizes and cash for the winning teams. Also, each team will receive 5-complimentary tickets to the screening.
- Can I hand in a rough of my short before Sunday 7pm and then switch it for a final copy at the last second?
No you cannot.
This is a time challenge and we will judge what is submitted on time.
- Can I put my short up on YOUTUBE/VIMEO or some other site?
Not before the screening.
Afte the scheduled screening you can do whatever you like with your short. Sorry for the short time delay between the shoot and the screening, but we need the time to get your films transferred to our exhibition format.
We want to have all our viewing experiences being a first for the audience, and Calgary. It makes for a larger audience overall and the viewing will be that much more exciting. If you do decide to host your short before the final you will be disqualified from the competition.
- Can I compete if I don't live in Windsor?
The competition is open to Windsor-Essex County and Detroit, Michigan.
- Who are these people known as the Judges?
The Judges are a range of industry professionals who are highly regarded in the film and TV industry. The judges for this year are TBA.
- How do they judge the films?
They look to see how well teams have stayed true to their genre and how they've integrated the random elements (prop & line of dialogue) into the finished film; As well as the writing, directing and acting.
The ultimate goal for each filmmaker is to make a short film that stands on its own outside of the competition but obeys all the rules of the challenge.
- What are the awards?
There will be a cash prize for best overall picture and donated prizes for Best Direction, Cinematography, Editing and Music/Sound. Only films handed in on time are eligible for any juried awards.
- What is the duration of the films?
They must be a minimum of 2 minutes and a maximum of 5 minutes long, including credits.
- Can I use any existing footage not shot in the weekend?
No stock footage or footage shot or created at another time may be used.
- Can I use animation?
Animation and special effects are permitted, but must be created during the 48 hour time period.
- Who supplies the equipment?
Your team is responsible for securing all technical equipment. WIFF does not provide any of this gear.
- Can we prep anything before the Flickfest begins?
Yes. You may secure locations, cast/crew, equipment and music before the challenge begins. All other requirements such as writing, wardrobe, props, shooting, editing, and effects must be completed within the 48-hour time period. This must be followed and is strictly enforced. We rely heavily on the honor system for this one, so please play fair to keep with the spirit of the exercise and contest.
- What happens if I don't get my film in on time?
7 pm EST on Sunday, October 21st, 2012 is the cut off for competition. If your film is submitted after this time it will not be eligible for awards and prizes. Time management is the basis of this contest. Traffic and technical excuses will not be tolerated. Please get your film in by the 48th hour!
- What are the “Flickfest Elements” to include?
The FlickFest elements are the specifics that you must incorporate into your film somehow. These elements include a line of dialogue, a prop and a theme. You will be judged on your ability to creatively incorporate these elements into your story in a seamless fashion. Each team will work with the same elements. The prop, line of dialogue and theme will be given to you upon registration.
- How many team members can I have?
Teams are permitted to use up to 8 people to create their films. This includes everyone, from technicians to the main actors. There is no minimum.
- Who is considered background and are they part of my 8?
Backgrounders are non-featured, non-speaking parts, and are used to create atmosphere in your scene. They do NOT count as part of your up to 8 team members. Please note that if a member of your background is easily definable, they must sign a release form. See 'general release form' in the documents section.
- Can we use stock footage in our film?
No, stock footage is not permitted. All of your film elements (excluding music) must be made within the 48-hour time period.
- My friend is in a band, can I use his / her music in my film?
Yes you can, but you must get them to provide a release form for it.
